MILLEN – Private George Robert Millen, of Settle (East Yorks. Regiment), killed in action, August 23rd, 1918, aged 19 years.

22 August 1919

MILLEN – In loving memory of my dear son and our dear brother, Private George Robert Millen, 1st East Yorks., reported killed in action August 23rd, 1918.

We little thought his time so short
When he on furlough came;
When to the Front he nobly went,
Ne’er to return again.
His cheery ways, his smiling face,
Are pleasant to recall,
He had a kindly word for all,
And died beloved by all.

“May the Lord grant him eternal rest.”

From his loving Mother, Sisters, Brother, Chapel Street, Settle.

MILLEN – In fond remembrance of my dear pal, Private George Robert Millen, reported killed in action August 23rd, 1918.

Killed at the Front – what a noble end!
He died his country to defend;
He rose responsive to the call,
He gladly gave his life – his all.

Hector.

MILLEN – In fond and loving memory of a dear son and brother, Private George Robert Millen, reported killed in action August 23rd, 1918.

Time may soothe the broken-hearted,
And the wound may feel less sore;
But time can never fill the longing
For the loved one gone before.

From Mother, Sisters and Brother, Chapel Street, Settle.

MILLEN – In loving memory of a dear pal, Private G. R. Millen, reported killed in action August 23rd, 1918.

Forget him! no, I never will,
I loved him then, I love him still;
His memory is just as sweet today
As on the day he was called away.

From Hector, Settle.

MILLEN – In loving memory of a dear son and brother, Pte. George Robert Millen, 1st East Yorks. Regt., who was reported killed in action, August 23rd, 1918.

He’s gone – the fair flower of our fireside,
Snatched away in the midst of his bloom;
But yet his sweet memory is with us still,
Though he’s laid in a cold silent tomb.

From his Mother, Brother and Sisters, Chapel Street, Settle.

MILLEN – In loving memory of a dear pal, Pte. George Robert Millen, 1st East Yorks. Regt., who was reported killed in action, August 23rd, 1918.

Tears may wipe out many things,
But this they wipe out never;
Memories of the good old times
When we were chums together.

From Hector, 4 Mains View, Settle.
