INGLEBY – April 30th 1917, in hospital, from wounds received in action in France, Private Thomas Ingleby, Signal Section, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, son of Adam Ingleby, Halton Gill, aged 20 years.

HALTON GILL – PTE. T. INGLEBY DIES OF WOUNDS
We tender sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Ingleby, of Halton Gill, whose son, Private T. Ingleby, died on April 30th in the No. 3 Australian Clearing Station, France, of wounds received in action on April 29th last. The news is contained in a letter from a nursing sister, who states that Pte. Ingleby was admitted on the 29th ult., suffering from severe shell wounds in the right arm, buttocks and back. He was immediately operated upon, but his condition became worse and death ensued the next morning. The sister sends her sympathy, and adds that the poor fellow had every possible attention and comfort to the last moment.

A memorial service was held in the Parish Church at Arncliffe on Sunday evening in memory of Pte. Thomas Ingleby, son of Mr. Adam Ingleby, of Halton Gill, who died of wounds received in France whilst carrying out his duty as signaller. Much sympathy is felt for his relatives, and many people showed their respect to one who had fallen in doing his duty to his country by attending the special service. A very appropriate sermon was preached by the Vicar, and the service concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
