Plovdiv is a city on the main road from Sofia to Istanbul. Plovdiv Central Cemetery is about 1 kilometre from the city centre, within the city limits, and on the same road to Istanbul (the Liljana Dimitrova Road).
Historical Information
The Commonwealth servicemen buried at Plovdiv Central Cemetery died either as prisoners of war or while serving with the occupying forces following the Bulgarian capitualtion in September 1918. The Commonwealth plot was formed when graves were brought in from other cemeteries. The cemetery now contains 55 Commonwealth burials of the First World War.
