1911 Grimsby, Lincolnshire Census: 78, Hope Street - Elsie McColgan, aged 15 years, born Grimsby, daughter of Alice Mary McColgan, widow. [Elsie and her mother's occupation is given as: fishing net maker.]
Elsie enrolled as Elsie May McColgan in the W.R.N.S. as an Electrician on 9 August 1918. Her Service Record Card names the shore establishment where she served as: 'Wallington' 9 August 1918 to 4 January 1919. Her next of kin is given as her mother: Alice Mary McColgan, 7, Harker Street, Sutton Mill, Keighley. (The service in which Elsie had served was found by members of the 'Great War Forum' website.)
Whether Elsie’s name should have been added to St Thomas's Church Roll of Honour, at least, it is a reminder of the service that she gave to her country.
