Albert Ludlam Hartley aka Albert Thornton (born 10, Burdett Street, Burnley, 22 August 1888) was the son of Sarah Alice Hartley who married Thomas Herbert Thornton in 1892. Sarah Alice, born at Brierfield, Lancashire, c. 1868, was the daughter of John and Mary Hartley, née Hixon. John was born at Whitworth and Mary at Colne, Lancashire. Albert’s birth certificate states that his parents were John and Mary.
