HIGHER BENTHAM - WOUNDED AND MISSING

Pte. Frederick Clapham, West Yorkshire Regt., son of Mr. Richard Clapham, of Bentham, is reported missing since May 3rd. he joined up last November, and went out on March 3rd last.

Pte. Charles Clark, of the Lancashire and Yorks. Regt., the son of Mr Henry Clark, is reported as having been wounded on May 9th. He joined up in February, and had been out a month. He is now in a base hospital. He has two brothers on active service.

HIGHER BENTHAM - On Leave

Several soldiers are home from the Front and hospital.-Cpl. J. Butterfield, of the King's Own, is just out of hospital with shrapnel wound in the stomach. Pte. Charles Clarke, the youngest son of the three fighting sons of Mr. Henry Clarke, is home from hospital. He belongs to the York and Lancaster's and was wounded and almost buried in France...

HIGHER BENTHAM – War Items

Private John Dowbiggin has received his discharge from the 'Duke's' and is at home suffering from gunshot wound in head and jaw. News has reached his father that Private Tom Clarke, of the Manchester 'Pals,' has been wounded. His other two brothers, Private Walter Clarke and Private Charles Clarke, have been wounded. Private Wm. Mccan [McCann], of the Durham Light Infantry, is home on six days' leave. Private John Lister is in hospital at Stockport suffering from trench fever. Private Adam Croft, of the 'Duke's,' is home on furlough.

BENTHAM

SOLDIERS - Several wounded soldiers are home from the front and hospital. Corpl. J. Butterfield, of the King's Own, is just out of hospital with shrapnel wound of the stomach, which he received at Kut. Pte. Charles Clarke, the youngest of the three fighting sons of Mr Henry Clarke, is home from hospital. He belongs to the Yorks. and Lancs., and was wounded and almost buried in France. Corpl. Tom Wildman and Ptes. John Kidd and Dick Kidd are home again on overseas leave. News has been received by his mother, Mrs. Emily Bibby, that her son, Clement Bibby, of the West Riding Regiment has been badly gassed and is lying at the base. Sec. Lieut. Wilf. T. Wells, second son of Mr. T.W. Wells, Bank House, Bentham, of the Machine Gun Section, is home from the trenches for a ten days' leave.
