Patriotic Skipton Family's Loss

Another young fellow whose name has to be added to the Skipton Roll of Honour is Private Leo Anslow, King's Liverpool Regiment, news of whose death from pneumonia, in a casualty clearing station in France, reached his mother, Mrs. Anslow, 1 Raikes Road, yesterday morning. The family has a proud record in the war, the father and the three sons all having enlisted, and they have the sympathy of many friends in their great loss. The father, Sergeant W. Anslow, is an old Territorial and is serving with the West Riding Regiment; Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant Harry Anslow was the first to join the Army from the office staff at Belle Vue Mills, and is chief clerk to the C.O. of the Machine Gun Corps; and ex-sergeant Wm. Frederick Anslow, who, as a member of the Bradford City Fire Brigade, was injured in the munitions explosion at Low Moor, obtained his discharge in 1916, after his period of service expired. Private Leo Anslow, who was only 19 years of age, joined up when he was 18 in July, 1917, and had been in France since last Easter. For three years he was assistant librarian at the Skipton Public Library, and later was in the employ of the Midland Railway. He was an enthusiastic swimmer and had won many prizes. In a letter to Mrs. Anslow, a sister states that deceased was admitted to the casualty clearing station on October 15th, and developed pneumonia three days later, which terminated fatally on Monday. We will give a photograph next week.
