Edwin Percy Bird was the son of Thomas and Sophia Bird, née Jenkins. Thomas was born at Richard's Castle [Civil Parish], Shropshire and Sophia at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. In 1891 Thomas and Sophia were living at Holden near Bolton-by-Bowland, Yorkshire.
