Eric Marlor was the son of Frank and Adelaide Marlor, née Rhodes. Frank was born at Rochdale, Lancashire and Adelaide at Saddleworth, Yorkshire.

Eric was married to Monica Garstang Buck in 1914. Monica was the daughter of Charles William and Emma Foote Buck, née Beare. Charles, a surgeon, had a long friendship with the composer, Edward Elgar, whom he may have been introduced to by his wife's brother, John Beare. Monica, who later married Orlando Greenwood, had, in her possession, many letters from Elgar to her father and some unpublished musical scores of his.
