George Fisher was the son of James and Mary Jane Fisher, née Busfield. James was born at North Grimston and Mary at Scruton, Yorkshire.

George was married to Emma Rathmell, née Wise, in 1909. Emma's only son, Ernest, by her husband, Benjamin Rathmell, was killed in action at Gallipoli whilst serving with the 9th (Service) Bn Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) on the 22 August 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

The 1921 Census shows that Emma and her sister, Lillian Leavesley (also a war widow), were boarding with Margaret C. Donegani at 10, Lea View Parade, Morecambe. The 1939 Register shows that Emma was living at at 2, Sandy Bank, Church Lane, Pannal. She died in 1951.
George and his stepson, Pte Ernest Rathmell (10290), are commemorated on the Pannal Parish War Memorial in St. Robert's Church.
