SKIPTON MAN’S BROTHER KILLED

We are given to understand that Corporal Lee, of the 1st East Lancashire Regiment, whose brother resides at Skipton, has been killed whilst serving at the Front. Private Mooney, also of the 1st East Lancashire Regiment, living at Skipton, and with whom a representative of this journal had an interesting interview (published elsewhere) on Tuesday, tells us that a day or two ago he informed Corporal Lee’s brother, who resides at Skipton, that whilst he was at the Front he witnessed Corporal Lee’s death. Whilst the deceased and five other men where playing a quiet game of cards, he saw a German shell burst above and kill six men. “It took us two days to find Corporal Lee’s face,” added our informant, grimly.

[The names of the five soldiers killed with Cpl Lee were: Pte John Clark, Pte Reginald Davies, Pte Bertie Charles Hatchard, Pte George Kettlewell and Pte John Rayner.]
