Henry Richard Leeming was the son of Richard and Isabella Leeming, née Harrison and brother of Private Walter Leeming (42860) (q.v.). Both of their parents were born at Clapham, Yorkshire. Henry and Walter were cousins of L/Corporal John Edward Leeming (20044) (q.v.) and Private Arthur James Harrison (G/41225) (q.v.).

Henry's remains were exhumed at map reference: 57d.X.18.a.8.0. and re-buried in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery.

Although SDGW and CWGC give Henry's date of death as the 29 July, the Graves Registration Report Form gives the 28 July.

A GIGGLESWICK SOLDIER KILLED – PRIVATE H.R. LEEMING

News has been received from the sergeant of the Battalion in which H.R. Leeming was a private, that the latter had been killed in action on 28th July last. Private Leeming, who was the eldest son of the late Mr. Richard and Mrs. Leeming, of Huntworth Farm, Giggleswick, joined voluntarily in November 1915 the Bradford ‘Pals’, but was afterwards transferred to the 9th Cheshires. He had not been out at the Front long, his last visit to Settle being at Whitsuntide. Prior to the War, he was farming along with his brothers and sisters at Huntworth, Giggleswick, and was greatly respected.

SETTLE AND GIGGLESWICK SOLDIERS KILLED

News has been received from the sergeant of the Battalion in which H.R. Leeming was a private, that the latter had been killed in action on July 28th last. Private Leeming, who was the eldest son of the late Richard and Mrs. Leeming, of Huntworth Farm, Giggleswick, joined voluntarily in November 1915 the Bradford Pals, but was afterwards transferred to the 9th Cheshires. GIGGLESWICK SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION

Official notification has been received that anther Giggleswick soldier has paid the supreme sacrifice in the person of 42860, Pte. Walter Leeming, West Yorkshire Regiment, on the 7th January in France. He joined the army just over twelve months ago, and was sent to France in July last. Prior to joining up he was assisting his brother to carry on the Huntworth Farm, and the bad news of his death is intensified by the fact that another of his brothers was also killed in action in July, 1916. The official notification states that he was accidentally killed. Much sympathy will be extended to the remaining members of the family in their sad loss.
