Skipton Military Medalist Killed

Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher, of 68 Westgate, Skipton, received the sad news last week-end that their son, Private James Clarence Fletcher, Royal Scots Fusiliers, had been killed in action on October 25th last. Deceased, who was twenty years of age, was home on leave recently, and had only been back at the front a fortnight when he met his death. He had previously gone through some heavy fighting without receiving a scratch, and was awarded the Military Medal in July last, and had since been recommended for the bar. He enlisted in September, 1916, and had been in France about fifteen months. In civil life he was a green-grocer on his own account.

Skipton Military Medallist Killed

Official news has been received that Pte. James Clarence Fletcher, Royal Scots Fusiliers, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Fletcher, 68 Westgate, Skipton, was killed in action on October 25th. Pte. Fletcher, who was 20 years of age, enlisted in September, 1916, and had been out in France just over 15 months. He was awarded the Military Medal last July, and had since been recommended for the bar to his medal. He had seen a good deal of heavy fighting. He had been home on leave, and had only been back in France a fortnight when he met his death. He formerly carried on business as a greengrocer on his own account in Skipton.

      Private James C Fletcher was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field.
