James Illingworth Archer was the son of Mary Jane Archer and (stepson of?) Arthur Illingworth. James's surname was given as Archer when his birth was registered in the same quarter of 1887 that Arthur and Mary's marriage was registered at Skipton. Arthur was born at Bradford and Mary at North Cave, Yorkshire. Mary died in 1909 and Arthur married Frances Shaw in 1910.

James was married to Annie Brown in 1910. The name of James's father is blank in the register.

CASUALTIES.–The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Archer, of 7, Adelaide St., Woodbottom, in her sad bereavement, her husband, Fitter J.J. [sic] Archer, A.S.C., [sic] having been killed on active service. Three young children are left.
