PARKER – July 8th, at Salonica, aged 32 years, Private James Parker, of Duke Street, Settle, youngest son of the late Joseph and E. M. Parker, of The Lodge Farm, Settle.

SETTLE – Settle Soldier Dies for His Country

We regret to announce the death of Private James Parker, of the Border Regiment, which took place in hospital in Salonica on July 6th last at the age of 32. Deceased was the youngest son of the late Joseph and E. M. Parker, of the Lodge Farm, Settle, and his wife and two children live in Duke Street, Settle. For them much sympathy is expressed. After his father’s death, deceased was with Messrs. Dugdale and Chapman, of Cleatop Farm, Settle, for some time to gain experience in farming, and subsequently was the tenant of Farnhill [Fairhill] Farm, Dalehead. In consequence of ill health he had to relinquish farming and took up an insurance agency in Settle. He joined up under the Derby Scheme, and was eventually drafted to Salonica where he contracted dysentery from which he eventually succumbed.

Settle Soldier’s Death

We regret to announce the death of Pte. James Parker, of the Border Regiment, which took place in hospital in Salonica on July 6th last at the age of 32. Deceased was the youngest son of the late Joseph and E.M. Parker, of The Lodge Farm, Settle, and his wife and two children live in Duke Street, Settle, for whom much sympathy is expressed. After his father’s death deceased was with Messrs. Dugdale and Chapman, of Cleatop Farm, Settle, for some time, to gain experience in farming, and subsequently was the tenant of Fairhill Farm, Dalehead.
