Mrs. Barrett, 23, Birtwhistle's Yard, Skipton, whose husband, Pte. Wm. A number of photographs and a pass book found near deceased on the battlefield by an officer have also been forwarded by the latter's wife to Mrs. Barrett, who has recognised the articles as belonging to her son. BARRETT - In loving memory of our dear son, Private John Barrett, killed in action August 31st, 1918.

He sleeps beside his comrades
In a hallowed grave unknown;
But his name is written in words of love
In the hearts he has left at home.
May Heavenly winds blow softly
O'er that sweet and hallowed spot;
Though the sea divides his grave and us
He will never be forgot.

From his sorrowing Father, Mother and Brother, 23 Birtwhistle Yard, Skipton.

BARRETT - In memory of Private J. Barrett, Duke of Wellington's, killed in action.

I often think of you dear Pal,
And the happy days gone by;
And in the lonely hours of thinking
I wish that you were nigh.
Some may think that I've forgot you,
When they sometimes see me smile,
But they little know the sorrow
That the smile hides all the while.

From his Pal and Cousin, Private F. Marshall, 1/9th Royal Scots.

His cheery ways, his smiling face,
Are pleasant to recall;
He had a kindly word for all,
And died beloved by all.
