John Dean (born 20 December 1890) was the son of Arthur Frederick and Elizabeth Dean, née Normington. Arthur was born at Burnley and Elizabeth at Colne, Lancashire.

EARBY – SOLDIER DIES OF WOUNDS

On the 7th inst., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dean, Brook Cottage, George Street, Earby, received an intimation from the War Office that their son, Pte. John Dean, Northumberland Fusiliers, had died from wounds in France. This was the first intimation that he had been wounded. Deceased was 26 years of age, and leaves a wife and one child now residing at 10, Edward Street, Coates. Pte. Dean had been out in France 8 months. He was formerly a weaver at Messrs. Horsfield & Wright’s, Bankfield, Earby.

On Sunday afternoon an impressive memorial service for the late Pte. John Dean was held at the Primitive Methodist Mission. The Rev. W. A. Eyre gave an appropriate address. There was a numerous attendance.

EARBY SOLDIER DIES OF WOUNDS

On Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dean, Brook Cottage, George Street, Earby, received an intimation from the War Office that their son, Pte. John Dean, 23rd Northumberland Fusiliers, had died of wounds in France. This was the first intimation that he had been wounded. Deceased was 26 years of age, and leaves a wife and one child now residing in Edward Street, Coates. Pte. Dean had been out in France 8 months. He was formerly a weaver at Messrs. A.J. Birley’s Victoria Shed, Earby.

EARBY SOLDIERS KILLED

The accompanying photo is that of Pte. John Dean, Northumberland Fusiliers, a report of whose death appeared in our last week’s issue. He was the son of Mr. Arthur Dean, Brook Cottage, Earby, but his wife resides at 10, Edward Street, Barnoldswick, where he also lived for a short time before enlisting, and was a weaver at Messrs. Horsfield and Wright’s, Bankfield, not A.J. Birley’s.
