John Emmott was the son of Charles and Susannah Emmott, née Beckett. Charles was born at Bentham and Susannah at Burton-in-Lonsdale, Yorkshire.

John Emmott died in Germany as a P.O.W., on the 26th May 1918. It is likely that he was taken prisoner in the 1918 German March Offensive, where in 10 days fighting the Battalion had 563 other ranks listed as missing.
