John Hudson Gill (born 15 April 1893) was the son of Thomas and Ann Gill, née Baines. Thomas was born at Embsay and Ann at Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire.

EARBY – TWO EARBY MEN LOSE THEIR LIVES
Brief official announcements concerning the deaths of two Earby soldiers came to hand on Wednesday.
Private John Gill, East Yorks Regiment, succumbed to injuries at a casualty clearing station in France on April 11th, after being on active service for the past three months. He was 24 years of age and single. He was the son of the late Mr. Thos. Gill, of Skipton, a clerk in the employ of the late Mr. W. D. Barrett, registrar of births and deaths. Prior to joining the Army he assisted his stepfather (Mr. J. Chapman) in a greengrocery business at 67, Victoria Road, Earby.

TWO EARBY MEN LOSE THEIR LIVES
Brief official announcements concerning the deaths of two Earby soldiers came to hand on Wednesday.
Pte. John Gill, East Yorks Regiment, succumbed to injuries at a casualty clearing station in France on April 11th, after being on active service for the past three months. He was 24 years of age and single. He was the son of the late Mr. Thos. Gill, of Skipton, a clerk in the employ of the late Mr. Barrett, registrar of births and deaths. Prior to joining the army he assisted his step-father (Mr. J. Chapman) in a greengrocery business at 67, Victoria Road, Earby.
Sapper Stanley Anderson, Royal Engineers, met his death in Mesopotamia, where he was posted as ‘missing, believed drowned,’ on March 9th. He was the son of Mr. Albert Anderson, painter, 10, Riverside Terrace, Earby. He went out to Mesopotamia in February last year from Egypt after serving in the Dardanelles campaign. It is presumed he met his death during the bridging operations on the Delia river. The last letter received by his parents was dated February 15th. Pte. Anderson was 23 years of age, and before joining the army was in the employ of Mr. E.W. Smith, plumber, Victoria Road, Earby.
