BURNLEY LANE LAD’S DEATH

Burnley Lane people will be sorry to learn of the death of Pte. Frank Hodge, of the 2nd East Lancashire Regiment. His father, who now lives at 11, Pickering-street, Brierfield, has received official intimation from the War Office stating that his son was killed in action on the 11th January. The deceased young man, who was formerly a weaver in the Burnley Lane district, was well known, and prior to joining the Army resided with his father at Briercliffe. He was 23 years of age, and had been in the Army six years. At the outbreak of the war he was with his regiment in South Africa, and straightaway was moved into the fighting line. Previously he had seen service in India.

Pte. John Hodge, a brother of the deceased, is at the present time in training with the East Lancashires, preparatory to going to the front.
