John William Ward was the son of Peter Mark Edward and Ann Ward, née Langstroth. Peter was born at Bramham and Ann at Gargrave, Yorkshire. Ann died, 3 January 1923. Peter married again in 1931, to Annie Hinsley, a widow.
John was the cousin of Private Edward Fawcett (34214) (q.v.) and Private Robert Thompson (29461) (q.v.). Sarah Elizabeth Langstroth, the cousin of John William Ward, Edward Fawcett and Robert Thompson, was married to Private William Edward Parrott (G/44798) (q.v.).
