Private W. Hilton, Langcliffe

Official intimation has been received that Private William Hilton, of Langcliffe, Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment, was killed in action on the 19th April last, while carrying ammunition. The gallant soldier was formerly employed at the Langcliffe Mills, and was a grandson of Mrs. Hilton, of Langcliffe, with whom he had been brought up. Letters of condolence and sympathy have been received from his N.C.O.’s and comrades.

HILTON – In loving memory of Private Willie Hilton, 1/6th Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, who was killed in action in France whilst carrying ammunition on April 19th, 1918.

Just when his hopes were brightest,

Langcliffe Soldier Killed

Official intimation has been received that Pte. William Hilton, of Langcliffe, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regiment, was killed in action on April 19th last, whilst carrying ammunition.
