ANOTHER SKIPTON HERO - PRIVATE JOSEPH BURKE

To the already lengthy list of Skipton heroes who have laid down their lives for King and Country has to be added the name of Private Joseph Burke, of the West Riding Regiment, official news of whose death in action on October 12th was received on Friday last by his mother, who lives at 15, Bold Venture Street, Walton Houses, Skipton. Deceased was 38 years of age, enlisted on March 29th, and went out to France on August 28th. He was formerly employed as a weaver by the Skipton Textile Co. and was a member of the committee of the Ancient Order of Romans Friendly Society.

BURKE - On Oct. 12th, killed in action in France, Pte. Joseph Burke, of the West Riding Regiment, son of Mrs. Burke, of 15, Bold Venture Street, Skipton, aged 38.

SKIPTON SOLDIER KILLED

Mrs. Burke, of 15, Bold Venture Street, Skipton, received official information on Friday last that her son, Pte. Joseph Burke, of the West Riding Regiment, had been killed in action on the Western Front on October 12th. Pte. Burke, who was 38 years of age, enlisted on March 29th, and went out to France on August 28th. He was formerly employed as a weaver by the Skipton Textile Company, and was a member of the committee of the Ancient Order of Romans Friendly Society.
