Joseph Gibson was the son of Robert and Ann Gibson, née Greenwood. Both parents were born at Sedbergh, Yorkshire.

1901 Sedbergh, Yorkshire Census: Main Street - Joseph Gibson, aged 6 years, born Sedbergh, son of Robert and Ann Gibson.

1911 Kendal, Westmorland Census: 1, Kent Place - Joseph Gibson, aged 16 years, born Sedbergh, Yorkshire. [Joseph was boarding with Robert and Agnes Metcalfe.]

SEDBERGH – DIED ON SERVICE

GIBSON, Lce.-Corpl. J. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson, of Finkle Street, Sedbergh, have been officially informed that their son, Lce.-Corpl. Joseph Gibson, Border Regt., has died of pneumonia at Dagshai. Lce-Corpl. Gibson, who was 24, had been in India for three years. He was formerly rural postman between Sedbergh and Garsdale.

SEDBERGH

On Thursday evening last week a memorial service to the late Lce.-Corpl. Joseph Gibson, Border Regiment, who died in Dagshai of pneumonia, was held in the Parish Church, the service being taken by the vicar, the Rev. A.H. Walker, and the Rev. A.J.K. Martyn. Special hymns were sung. Mr. A. Harris was at the organ.
