Norris Cowgill was the son of Arthur and Betty Cowgill, née Brown. Arthur was born at Bradford and Betty at Earby, Yorkshire. Norris was the cousin of A/Corporal Ernest Cowgill (2063) (q.v.) and L/Corporal Harold Cowgill (18/1514) (q.v.). Norris's brother, Ronald, was married to Mary Sophia Bray, the sister of Private Robert Bray (203334) (q.v.).

Private Morris Cowgill, Earby

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cowgill, Sunset Café, Colne Road, Earby, have received official news that their son, Rifleman Morris Cowgill, West Yorks, Regiment, had been killed in action on March 27th. He was 19 years of age and went out to France at the end of January. His death will be a great loss to the choir of All Saints’ Church, Earby, with which he had been connected since the age of seven years, and was a very capable soloist. He was employed by the Earby Manufacturing Company. His brother is also in France.

Earby Chorister Killed

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cowgill, Sunset Café, Colne Road, Earby, have received official news that their son, Rifleman Morris [Norris] Cowgill, West Yorkshire Regiment, had been killed in action on March 27th. He was 19 years of age, and went out to France at the end of January.
