Robert Henry Bray was the son of Henry and Mary Elizabeth Bray, née Harland. Henry was born at Barnetby-le-Wold, Lincolnshire and Mary at Mickley near Masham, Yorkshire. Robert's sister, Mary Sophia Bray, was married to Ronald Cowgill, the brother of Private Norris Cowgill (20986) (q.v.).
