It was with a pang of sorrow that a host of friends heard last Friday of the untimely death of Mr. Robert Southworth Preston, only son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Robert Preston, of Longsight, Clitheroe. Many were aware that for some weeks he had been in a critical condition following upon throat trouble contracted whilst he was serving with H.M.Forces, but none realized until life slipped away that the chances were against his recovery. Such, however, was the case, and many are left to lament the demise of as cheery a companion as could be encountered.

"Robin" as he was known to a wide circle, was educated at the Grammar School and at Pannal College, Harrogate, and he became one of the most popular students at each establishment. After leaving school, he entered training for a position in the cotton manufacturing world, but no sooner did he become eighteen than he joined the Forces and was training as a pilot in the R.A.F., being demobilised a few months ago. He attained the age of twenty recently. The interment took place at Long Preston on Monday, the many beautiful tributes including a floral cross from the students at the Grammar School. Deep sympathy is felt with the members of the bereaved family.
