MR. MOSES DAKRES, SEDBERGH

Mr. Moses Dakres, of Guldrey Cottages, Sedbergh, died on Sunday, after a long illness. He had almost completed his 65th year. Born at Orton in Westmorland, Mr. Dakres was farm bailiff to Col. Gandy, of Heaves, for eight years, and afterwards farmed on his own account at Selside and Gill House Stile, Firbank. Declining farming well over 20 years ago, he came to Sedbergh and assisted the late Mr John Handley in his business as a coal merchant for 15 years, also being caretaker of the Men’s Institute for a similar period. He had been in poor health for the last three years, and had been practically confined to his bed for twelve months before the end. A cheerful, straightforward and courteous man, his kindness of disposition caused him to be held in general esteem. He has left a widow, three daughters, and two sons, both of whom are serving, one being with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, the other with the Scottish Rifles [Sgt. Thomas Ellwood Dakres].
