EARBY MAN’S DEATH IN CAMP

The death took place at Clipstone Camp on Wednesday week of Pte. Thomas Mcnamara, Duke of Wellington’s, at the age of 18 years and nine months. Deceased had been in training two months, the cause of death being tubercular meningitis. He was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mcnamara, 13, Lincoln Road, Earby, and before being called to the Colours was employed as a weaver at Mr. Bracewell Hartley’s Brook Shed. The remains were brought home to Earby on Friday, and the funeral took place at Thornton Church on Saturday afternoon, the obsequies being conducted by the Rev. Father Van Woerkom (Barnoldswick) in the presence of a large and sympathising crowd. The coffin was covered with floral tributes, including three beautiful wreaths from the officers and men in deceased’s regiment.
