BARNOLDSWICK & EARBY NEWS – He took French Leave

At the Skipton Town Hall yesterday Thomas Walsh, a private in the Highland Light Infantry, stationed at Hill Street, Glasgow, was charged with deserting. Walsh was seen in the Butts, Barnoldswick, the previous day and when asked it he had a pass said “Yes.” Called upon to produce it he replied, “I might as well tell the truth; I came home on French leave.” He was remanded in custody to await an escort.

Private Thomas Walsh, of Barnoldswick, who was serving with the Highland Light Infantry in Palestine, has been officially reported missing since November 8th. He enlisted soon after the outbreak of war, and after serving in the Dardanelles down to the evacuation was transferred to Egypt.

Pte. Thos. Walsh, of Barnoldswick, who was serving with the Highland Light Infantry, in Palestine, has been officially reported missing since November 8th. He enlisted soon after the outbreak of war, and after serving in the Dardanelles down to the evacuation was transferred to Egypt.
