William Draper Dickinson was the son of William and Elizabeth Ann Dickinson, née Draper. William, senior, was born at Kirkby Stephen, Westmorland and Elizabeth at Shireoaks, Nottinghamshire.

1901 Langwathby, Cumberland Census: William Draper Dickinson, aged 7 years, born Langwathby, son of William and Elizabeth A. Dickinson.

1911 Appleby, Westmorland Census: Crackenthorpe - William Draper Dickinson, aged 17 years, born Langwathby, Cumberland. [William was employed by Thomas William Horn, Farmer.]

The British Army Service Record for William Draper Dickinson exists but may be incomplete.

William was killed in action close to Poelcappelle (Poelkapelle) during the Battles of Ypres, 1917, 31 July-10 November, at the First Battle of Passchendaele, 12 October.

William is commemorated on the Langwathby War Memorial and the Midland Railway War Memorial at Derby.
