William Fawcett was the son of Edward and Margaret Fawcett, née Mason. Edward was born at Simonstone and Margaret at Woodhall, Yorkshire.

1901 Stalling Busk, Yorkshire Census: William Fawcett, aged 4 years, born Sedbusk, Yorkshire, son of Edward and Margaret Fawcett.

1911 Stalling Busk, Yorkshire Census: William Fawcett, aged 14 years, born Abbotside High, Yorkshire, son of Edward and Margaret Fawcett.

The British Army Service Record for William Fawcett exists but may be incomplete.

William served in the Training Reserve from 29 February 1916 to 20 June 1917. He was discharged because of tuberculosis and received the Silver War Badge.
