CRAVEN AND THE WAR

Rifleman A. E. Beaumont, of the First 18th London Irish Rifles, brother of Mr. F. Beaumont, Nelson Road, Ilkley, has been killed in action in Flanders, by being struck with shell splinters in the stomach.

Before the war he was a teacher of languages in Ghent, and was the last Englishman to leave the city when the Germans occupied it. He got through the German lines into Holland, and landed in England just before Christmas. He then joined the London Irish Rifles, and was drafted to France about Easter, being attached to headquarters staff as interpreter. He was 32 years old.
