STOREY – In loving memory, of my dear husband, Pte. A. Storey, who was killed in action on July 18th, 1918.

He left his home in perfect health,
He looked so strong and brave,
We little thought how soon he’d be
Laid in a hero’s grave.

Ever remembered by his wife and child, Mrs. Storey, 16 Victoria Street, Skipton.

STOREY – In loving memory of our dear brother, Private A. Storey, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, who was killed in action July 18th, 1918.

May the Heavenly winds blow softly
O’er that sweet and hallowed spot;
Though the sea divides his grave from us,
He will never be forgot.

From his sister Emily and Bell, 1 Hill Street, Skipton.

STOREY – In loving memory of our dear brother, Pte. Albert Edward Storey, killed on, July 18th, 1918.

Upright and just in all his ways,
Faithful and true to the end of his days;
Forgotten to the world by some be may be,
But true to our memory he ever will be.
He gives us still the dear old smile
Prom the photo on the wall;
We feel as if our hearts would break
When fond memories we recall.

Ever remembered by his sister Cissy and Brother Bob, 13 Hill Street, Skipton.

STOREY – In loving memory of a dear brother and uncle, Private Albert Edward Storey, who was killed in France July 18th, 1918.

Friends may think that we forget you
When they sometimes see us smile;
But they do not know the sorrow
That the smile hides all the while.

Skipton Soldier Killed in Action

Mrs. Storey, of 16, Victoria Street, Skipton, has received intimation of the death of her husband, Pte. A. Storey, of the 2nd Duke of Wellington’s Regt., who was killed in action on July 18th. Pte. Storey was 30 years of age, and formerly worked on the railway as a platelayer. He joined the Army on October 29th, 1915, and has been out in France for two and a half years. He was gassed on April 24th last, and has now been killed. He leaves a widow and one child. Mrs. Storey has received the following letters: – Dear Mrs. Storey, – I deeply regret that your husband was killed in a raid which we did on Thursday. He was a stout-hearted fellow and one I was proud to lead. He has been buried in a cemetery behind the lines. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in your sad bereavement.– I am, yours sincerely, MAURICE BANHAM. 2nd Lieut. Sunday, July 21st.

Dear Madam, – It is with the deepest regret and sympathy that I write to tell you that your dear husband was killed in action. He was a good lad and was liked and respect by all the boys, who, I can tell you, are all very sorry. But I hope and pray that Almighty God will give you the health and strength to bear up in your sad bereavement. I hope you are getting over your illness for the sake of your dear little son, as Albert was looking forward to the time when he would be able to see you and him again. I can tell you I feel very sorry. But there is one thing – you can hold your head up, as he died fighting for his King and country… He was always cheery and looked on the bright side of things… May Almighty God bless and watch over you and your little son for your dear husband’s sake. – Yours respectfully, 21942 Pte. C. KIRK.
