27 September 1918

SLATE – In sad and loving memory of our dear son and brother, Lance-Corpl. A. Slate, 90th Machine Gun Corps, who fell in France on the 30th September,1917.

Could we but have clasped his hand,
The lad we love so well;
To kiss his brow when death was nigh
And whispered a last farewell.
We pictured his safe returning,
We longed to clasp his hand,
But God has postponed the meeting
Till we meet in the Better Land.

– From him sorrowing Father, Mother, Sisters and Brother. 39, Skipton Road, Barnoldswick.
