BLACKBURN - Killed in action in France, August 20th, Sergeant Arthur Dean Blackburn, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, aged 18 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Blackburn, 9 Rushton Avenue, Earby.

HIGH BENTHAM - A Bentham Soldier Killed

Sergeant Arthur Blackburn (19), of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, is officially reported killed in action on the 30th August last. He was badly wounded in the abdomen and died almost immediately. He was the son of Private Thomas Blackburn, late of Wray, and recently of Bentham. Deceased was brought up at Wray and was educated at Wray and Bentham Schools. He volunteered for service in 1915, when he was only sixteen. His father also volunteered in 1914, and was in the 'Duke's' until owing to age he was transferred to a Labour Battalion. He was a stone mason by trade, and worked for Mr. Nicholas Harrison, at Bentham.

BLACKBURN - In loving memory of Sergeant Arthur Dean Blackburn, 2/4th Duke of Wellingtons West Riding Regiment, who was killed in action, August 30th, 1918, aged 18 years.

Bentham Soldier Killed

Sergt. Arthur Blackburn (19), of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, is officially reported killed in action on
20th August. He was badly wounded in the abdomen and died almost immediately. He was the son of Pte. Thos. Blackburn, late of Wray, and recently of Bentham. Deceased was brought up at Wray and was educated at Wray and Bentham. He volunteered for service in 1915 when he was only 16. His father also volunteered in 1914, and was in the 'Duke's' until owing to his age he was transferred to a labour battalion. He was a mason and worked for Mr. Nicholas Harrison at Bentham.
