Roll of Honour

Blackburn – In loving memory of Pte. Ernest Blackburn, of the Lancashire Fusiliers, killed in action at the Dardanelles, June 4th, 1915, aged 21 years.

A year ago, ‘midst shot and shell, he fell, a soldier brave;
He gave his life for the dear old flag, his courage never failed.

– From his loving father.

Blackburn – In loving memory of Pte. Ernest Blackburn, who was killed in action on June 4th, 1915, at Gallipoli.

If we could have raised his dying head and heard his last farewell,
The grief would not have been so hard for those who loved him well.
We think of him in silence, and oft his name recall:
There’s nothing left to answer now but his photo. on the wall

– From mother, sisters, and brothers, 10, Edmondson-st., Barnoldswick.
