ADDINGHAM – DIED FROM WOUNDS

We regret to announce the death of Private Arthur Foster, of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, who died from wounds received in action on December 30th. News was first received by his wife on Monday, January 7th, in a telegram from York intimating that he had died on the 31st December at a Casualty Clearing Station, France. Mrs. Foster received a letter from his officer stating her husband had his legs broken. He was able to receive expert treatment at once, was taken away to hospital about 9 a.m. but succumbed as stated. He was due to come home on leave on January 2nd. Private Foster, whose home was in Cockshott Fold, Addingham, was 37 years of age and leaves a widow and two children. He had only recently been in hospital suffering from trench feet and had been expected home for Christmas. He joined up on August 26th 1916, and was employed as a carter by the local Co-operative Society previous to joining up. We tender sincere sympathy to his widow and children.
