Mrs. Lee has received a letter from his officer as follows:– “As Capt.-Commanding your son’s company, I feel it my duty to write and sympathise with you on the death of your son, 5921, Pte. A. Lee. His death was at very merciful one, as it was quite instantaneous. A piece of shell caught him in the head. He was very well liked in the company owing to his cheerful nature, and I am certain he is very much missed by both my officers and men. Your son was buried the following day near where he fell, and a beautiful cross has since been made and erected at [by] the men his company. Once again I send you the deepest sympathy of my officers and men in your grievous loss.”
