SKIPTON'S ROLL OF HONOUR - PRIVATE COLIN JAMES BERESFORD

Private Colin James Beresford, Nottingham and Derbyshire Regiment, is another Skipton soldier who has made the supreme sacrifice. His wife, who lives at 6 Carleton Street, Skipton, received an intimation from the War Office on Wednesday that he was killed in action on June 7th. Mrs. Beresford has also received the following letter from Captain J.C. Harrison:- "No doubt you will have been officially informed from the War Office of your husband's death. I am very sorry to say he was killed in the big push on June 7th. He got over the third German line all right, but was killed by a shell later on. I was not near him at the time, but from what I can hear he did not suffer much as he was killed almost instantly. He was a splendid worker, and not only his comrades, but I also, shall miss him very much. He was buried near to where he was killed and his name put over his grave. I am very sorry to have to tell you this sad news and you have both mine and the Company's sympathy."

Thirty years of age, Pte. Beresford enlisted in November 1916, and had only been out just over three weeks when he met his death. He was formerly a motor driver at the Silsden Dye Works, and leaves a wife and two children.
