Edgar Parker was the son of Daniel and Martha Parker, née Shuttleworth and brother of Private Walter Parker (235426) (q.v.). Both of their parents were born at Kelbrook, Yorkshire. Edgar and Walter were cousins of Private Carl Randolph Watson (460085) (q.v.).

PARKER – September 25th 1917, killed in action on the Western Front, Gunner Edgar Parker, R.G.A., son of Mr. Daniel Parker, Stoops Farm, Kelbrook, aged 23 years.

KELBROOK SOLDIER KILLED

The death took place in France on September 25th, of Gunner Edgar Parker, R.G.A., son of Mr. Daniel Parker, Snoops Farm, Kelbrook. He was taken to the Casualty Clearing Station suffering from a gunshot wound in the body and died the same day. Gunner Parker was 23 years of age and had been at the Front six months. One of his brothers has been discharged from the Army, and three are still serving.

KELBROOK – Conservative Club: A Fine Record

An enjoyable and successful social evening was held in the Church School on Saturday evening on behalf of the Club. There was a good attendance. The Club’s Roll of Honour was read during the evening by the President. Out of a total membership of about 50 when war broke out over one half had joined the Colours, two of whom are now prisoners of war in Germany, namely: Alban Atkinson and Stephen Cowgill. Three of the most respected members have made the supreme sacrifice, namely: John William Driver, Fred Gardiner, and Edgar Parker. The M.C’s were Mr. Albert Watson, Mr. E.H. Bulcock, and Mr. T. Whittaker; and Mr. Higson Walton and Mr. Walter Lawson (two discharged soldiers) supplied the music. They efficiently carried out their duties.

WOUNDED AND MISSING

Private Edward Forrest ( N.F.), son of Mr. George Forrest, 17, Shuttleworth Street, Earby, and Private Fred Parker, son of Mr. Daniel Parker, Stoops Farm, Kelbrook, are both reported missing.
