Edward Forrest was the son of George and Mary Elizabeth Forrest, née Bowes. George was born at Guiseley, Yorkshire and Mary at West Hartlepool, Co. Durham.

1891 Kelbrook, Yorkshire Census: Low Fold - Edward Forrest, aged 1 year, born Kelbrook, son of George and M.E. Forrest. [Edward and his parents were living with his father's father, James Forrest, widower. James had married Mary Bowes, Mary Elizabeth's mother, in 1871.]

1901 Kelbrook, Yorkshire Census: High Fould - Edward Forrest, aged 11 years, born Kelbrook, son of George and Mary E. Forrest.

1911 Kelbrook, Yorkshire Census: School House Farm - Edward Forrest, aged 21 years, born Kelbrook. [Edward was employed as a cowman by Thomas Shuttleworth, Farmer.]

WOUNDED AND MISSING

Private Edward Forrest ( N.F.), son of Mr. George Forrest, 17, Shuttleworth Street, Earby, and Private Fred Parker, son of Mr. Daniel Parker, Stoops Farm, Kelbrook, are both reported missing.

EARBY SOLDIER’S DEATH PRESUMED

An official intimation has been received presuming the death of Private Edward Forrest, Northumberland Fusiliers, whose father resides at 17 Shuttleworth Street, Earby. He was previously reported missing since the 21st March 1918. Prior to enlisting in April 1916, Private Forrest was employed as a farm hand by Mr. T. Shuttleworth, Earby. He first went to France in September 1916, and was invalided home with trench fever in the January following, returning to France on July 26th 1917. Further information as to his fate will be gratefully received at the above address.
