SILSDEN – TOLL OF WAR

Mr. Wm. Dawson, 33 Tufton Street. Silsden, has received a letter from the sister-in-charge at No. 54 Casualty Clearing Station, France, stating that his son, Private Frank Dawson, Motor Transport Section, of the Army Service Corps, has died from bronchial pneumonia and that everything possible had been done for him. Private Dawson was 32 [sic] years of age, and enlisted in June, 1916, and went out to France in May last. Prior to joining the Forces he was employed as designer by Mr. Herbert Green, manufacturer, Silsden. Another brother, Driver Albert Dawson, is serving with the Machine Gun Corps in France.

Silsden Soldier Dies From Pneumonia

Pte. Frank Dawson, Motor Transport Section, of the Army Service Corps, son of Mr. Wm. Dawson, 33, Tufton Street, Silsden, died at No. 58 Casualty Clearing Station, France, from bronchial pneumonia on Nov. 5th. The sister-in-charge at the hospital writes stating that everything possible was done for him. Pte. Dawson, who was 22 years of age, enlisted in June, 1916, and had been out in France since May last. He was formerly employed as manager for Mr. Herbert Green, manufacturer, Waterloo Mills, Silsden. He was also a member of the now defunct Silsden Golf Club. Another brother, Driver Albert Dawson, is also serving with the Machine Gun Corps in France.
