Fred Sutcliffe was the son of Abraham and Elizabeth Ann Sutcliffe, née Sharp. Both parents were born at Oxenhope, Yorkshire. Fred was the brother of Private Ellis Sutcliffe (18508) (q.v.) and Private Joseph Sutcliffe (202409) (q.v.).

1901 Wadsworth, Yorkshire Census: No. 3, Shaft - Fred Sutcliffe, aged 2 years, born Wadsworth, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Sutcliffe.

1911 Earby, Yorkshire Census: 26, Riverside Terrace - Fred Sutcliffe, aged 12 years, born Wadsworth, Yorkshire, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Ann Sutcliffe.

Pte. Fred Sutcliffe (Leicestershire Regiment), youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Sutcliffe, 8, Arthur Street, Barnoldswick, was killed in action on March 21st.
