Private F. J. Mason, Skipton

After being missing since August 16th 1917, Private F. J. Mason, Lancashire Fusiliers, whose wife and five children live at 19 Cumberland Street, Skipton, is now officially presumed to have been killed on that date. Mrs. Mason some time ago had a letter from a soldier (who has since been killed) who said that deceased was wounded in the head, and this was followed by a letter from his officer stating that Private Mason had passed through the clearing station as wounded. Thirty-two years of age, Private Mason had been in France since last New Year’s Day. For many years he had followed the occupation of farming, having been in the employ of Mr. Chester of Carleton, and also of a farmer at Rimington, but he was perhaps better known as an agent of the Refuge Insurance Company.
