PRIVATE GEO. HARRISON, BOLTON-BY-BOWLAND

Mrs. Harrison of Bolton-by-Bowland, has received official communication that the Army Council have been regretfully constrained to conclude that her husband, Private George Harrison, died on October 9th 1917, since which time he has been missing. Private Geo. Harrison joined the Amy in August 1916, being attached to the West Yorkshire Regiment. He was wounded in France on August 9th 1917. After being in hospital for some time he again went to France in the following September. He was the fourth son of Mr. John Harrison, of Powell Street, Barnoldswick. A brother was killed in Salonika and another three are doing duty for their country – two in the Army and one in the Navy. Private Harrison worked for the Bowland Rural District Council, and had lived in the village four years. Previously he was employed by Mr. Geldard at Rathmell, and occupied the position of churchwarden in that village. He was thirty years of age and leaves a widow and two children, for whom much sympathy is expressed.

10 October 1919

HARRISON – In loving memory of my dear husband, Private George Harrison, 5th West Yorks. Regiment, who was reported missing on October 9th, 1917 – now reported died in France on that date.

No one knows the silent heartache,
Only those can tell
Who have lost their best and dearest
Without the last farewell.

From his wife and two Children, Muriel and Eva, Bolton-by-Bowland.
