AUSTWICK – Private James Harrison Dies in India

It is with regret that we record the death of Private James Harrison, South Staffordshire Regiment, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harrison, Wharf. The sad news was received on Sunday week in a letter from the Infantry Records Office, Lichfield, which stated that Private Harrison died in Caloba War Hospital, Bombay, from erysipelas on May 3rd. Private Harrison, who was 22 years of age, enlisted in January 1915 in the 3rd West Yorkshire Regiment. Later he was transferred to the South Staffordshire Regiment, with which regiment he was drafted to India 15 months ago. Prior to joining up he was employed by his father in farm work. He was highly respected and of a quiet disposition, steady and reliable, and highly respected by all who knew him. Much sympathy is felt for his family in their loss. Two other sons are serving in H.M. Forces ~ Driver Fred Harrison in Mesopotamia, and Private Hector Harrison on farm work.
