Harold Oldfield was the son of Alfred and Sarah Oldfield, née Dennis. Alfred was born at Carleton-in-Craven and Sarah at Osmotherley, Yorkshire.

1901 Bingley, Yorkshire Census: Milner Field Lodge - Harold Oldfield, aged 1 year, born Silverdale, Lancashire, son of Alfred and Sarah Oldfield.

1911 Skipton, Yorkshire Census: 34, Ermysted Street - Harold Oldfield, aged 11 years, born Silverdale, Lancashire, son of Alfred and Sarah Oldfield.

The British Army Service Record for Harold Oldfield exists but may be incomplete.

Harold was killed in action near Marfaux during the Battles of the Marne, 1918, 20 July-2 August, at the Battle of Tardenois, 20-31 July.

On the 30 January 1918 the 1/8th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment moved to the 62nd (2/West Riding) Division absorbing the 2/8th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment, to form the 8th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment.

Private Harold Oldfield, Skipton

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Oldfield, of 34 Ermysted Street, Skipton, have, we regret to say, received an official intimation of the death in action, on July 20th, of their son, Private Harold Oldfield, West Yorkshire Regiment. Only nineteen years of age, Private Oldfield joined up in September last year, and went to France in April of this year. He was formerly associated with the Skipton Parish Church Sunday School. Another brother, Sydney, is serving in the Royal Air Force.
