EARBY SOLDIER DIES FROM WOUNDS - PRIVATE H. M. BAILEY

Mrs. Bailey has received intimation from the War Office that her son, Private Harrison Milton Bailey, of the London Regiment, died during the 25th September from wounds received whilst serving in France. Mr. Bailey was the son of the late Christopher Bailey, who at one time carried on a business of joiner and builder at Skipton and later at Heysham. He was trained for his profession at the Westminster Training College, London, and in June was appointed a certificated assistant master at the New Road Council School, Earby. Enlisting in December, 1914, along with several other college chums, he was immediately sent out to Malta. After training, he was drafted to Egypt and later served in the Dardanelles campaign, being amongst the last party to leave on the evacuation from Suvla Bay. Returning to Egypt for a short period, he early this year landed at Marseilles for service in France, so recently as August this year he received his first and only leave. He was a young man of an exceptionally bright disposition much esteemed by his fellow teachers and scholars and a large circle of friends. We will give a photograph of the deceased next week.
