TOFT – June 7th, killed in action in France, Pte. Harry R. Toft, Royal Fusiliers (Bankers’ Battalion), son of the late Rev. J. Toft, formerly of Skipton and Barnoldswick.

FORMER BARNOLDSWICK RESIDENT KILLED

Information was received in Barnoldswick on Sunday of the death in France of Pte. Harry R. Toft, Royal Fusiliers (Bankers’ Battalion), who was killed in action on the 7th inst. Deceased, who was in his 24th year, was the youngest son of the late Rev. J. Toft, Wesleyan minister formerly of Skipton and Barnoldswick. Previous to enlistment he was a clerk in the employ of the London Joint Stock Bank at Silloth, Cumberland. He had been at the Front about seven weeks. The sad news was conveyed to Mr. J. F. Toft, druggist (brother of the deceased) in a letter from the Rev. E. Sayer Ellis, Wesleyan chaplain to the regiment.
